Paul Neményi
فیزیکدان اهل مجارستان
Paul Neményi was a Hungarian mathematician and physicist, born in 1895, who made significant contributions to the field of continuum mechanics. His work primarily focused on applying vector field analysis to solve nonlinear equations of gas dynamics, resulting in numerous exact solutions that represented rotational flows of nonuniform total energy. Neményi's approach, which he termed the inverse or semi-inverse method, enabled him to derive geometrical solutions to complex fluid dynamics problems.
Neményi's research led to the development of a fundamental concept in continuum mechanics, now known as "Neményi's theorem". This theorem states that for any given net of isothermal curves, there exists a five-parameter family of plane stress systems for which these curves are stress trajectories. Through his work, Neményi demonstrated the importance of geometrical analysis in understanding fluid dynamics and continuum mechanics. He passed away in 1952, leaving behind a legacy of contributions to the field of astronomy and continuum mechanics.
