Nelson Goodman
فیلسوف آمریکایی
Nelson Goodman was a prominent American philosopher born in 1906. His philosophical work spanned multiple areas, including the concept of counterfactuals, which are conditional statements that depart from actual facts. Goodman also made significant contributions to mereology, the theory of parthood relations and the study of how parts relate to wholes. Additionally, he addressed the problem of induction, a fundamental concern in the philosophy of science that questions how we can justify inductive reasoning.
Goodman's philosophical inquiries further extended into irrealism, a perspective that challenges traditional notions of reality, and aesthetics, the branch of philosophy that deals with the nature of beauty, taste, and art. Through his work in these diverse fields, Goodman established himself as a major figure in 20th-century philosophy. He passed away in 1998, leaving behind a legacy of influential ideas and contributions to the world of philosophy.
