Michael Bernard Bloomfield was a renowned American blues guitarist and composer, born in Chicago in 1943. He gained prominence in the 1960s, earning his reputation primarily through his exceptional instrumental skills, as he seldom sang prior to 1969. Bloomfield's talent as a guitarist earned him respect within the music community, and he had the opportunity to interact and perform with numerous Chicago-based blues musicians before achieving his own success.
Bloomfield played a significant role in popularizing blues music in the mid-1960s. One of his notable collaborations was with Bob Dylan, as he contributed to Dylan's iconic album Highway 61 Revisited in 1965, including the hit single "Like a Rolling Stone". The same year, Bloomfield also performed alongside Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival. Through his work, Bloomfield left a lasting impact on the music scene, and his legacy as a skilled blues guitarist continues to be celebrated. He passed away in 1981, at the age of 37.
