He is best known for creating the iconic character The Stainless Steel Rat, as well as his thought-provoking novel Make Room! Make Room!, published in 1966. This notable work served as the foundation for the 1973 film Soylent Green, exploring themes that resonated with audiences. Throughout his career, Harrison established himself as a significant figure in the science fiction genre.

Harrison's involvement in the science fiction community extended beyond his writing. He was a long-time resident of both Ireland and the United Kingdom, and played a key role in the establishment of the Irish Science Fiction Association.
