Barbara Cassin is a distinguished French philologist and philosopher who has made significant contributions to the field of philosophy. Her academic career is marked by notable appointments, including her election to the prestigious Académie Française in 2018. Cassin has also been recognized for her outstanding work with the Grand Prize of Philosophy from the Académie Française. She has held prominent positions at esteemed institutions, such as the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in Paris, where she serves as an emeritus research director.

Cassin's leadership roles extend to the International College of Philosophy, where she is a program director, director of the Scientific Council, and a member of the board of directors. Previously, she directed the Collège international de philosophie, which was founded by Jacques Derrida. In 2006, she took the helm of the Centre Leon-Robin at the Sorbonne, a leading center of excellence in Ancient philosophy, succeeding Jonathan Barnes. Recently, Cassin has collaborated with philosopher Alain Badiou on seminars and book projects, further solidifying her reputation as a prominent figure in philosophical scholarship.
