Isaac de Leon
Isaac de Leon was a prominent figure in Judaism, hailing from Leon and later residing in Ocaña, Toledo, Spain. As a pupil of Isaac Campanton, he developed a strong foundation in his studies, which ultimately led to his recognition as one of the last rabbis of Castile. De Leon's areas of expertise included kabbalism, and he was known to believe in the power of miracles, aligning him with other notable figures such as Moses de Leon.
Isaac de Leon earned great respect from his peers, including Joseph Caro, who referred to him as "the great teacher." His advanced age at the time of his death, exceeding seventy years, was a testament to his long and distinguished career. Although he passed away before the expulsion of the Jews from Spain, his legacy lived on through his many pupils, who deeply mourned his loss. Despite initial attributions, his authorship of certain works, such as Megillat Ester, has been disputed and reassigned to a later writer, Isaac Leon ibn Zur, by scholar Azulai.
